My mom and I have been watching the Harry Potter movies in order as a way to wind down, so, hey, here are some thoughts about Harry Potter. A while back I saw some dumbass ragging on Hermione because she sucks at producing a patronus, which! Always has made sense to me! So much sense. Because you know what? When you’re an anxious, perfectionist overthinker it’s really difficult to come up with happy memories that are untainted in any way by the nagging feeling of some misstep on your part, or your worry that maybe that happiness was undeserved, or at someone else’s expense, or at the expense of future happiness. That’s just how it goes when your brain is constantly running systems analysis to anticipate future problems. It’s the double edged sword of that kind of competence. So the fact that the one spell that Hermione never really gets down is expecto patronum rings really fucking true to me, and fuck off, random person whose bullshit opinion I saw like a billion years ago and I’ve been thinking about ever since.
